What To Pack For Your Flat Lay Photos
Flat lay photos are usually the first thing I photograph on a wedding day. They set the tone for your gallery and tell the story of your details. The best flat lays happen when you have everything organized and ready to go. Here is exactly what to pack so your detail photos look polished, intentional, and complete.
Your Invitation Suite
Bring every piece, even if you are not sure you need it.
This includes:
• full invitation
• envelope
• RSVP card
• detail card
• stamps
• wax seals
• any ribbon it came with
Photographers love layering these pieces to build a beautiful layout.
Both Rings
This is the most common thing couples forget.
Pack:
• engagement ring
• wedding band
• partner’s band
Put them together in a small ring box so they are easy to grab in the morning.
Jewelry
Anything you are wearing should be included in the flat lay.
Examples:
• earrings
• necklace
• bracelet
• hair accessories
• heirloom pieces
These add depth and shine to your layout.
Shoes
Bridal shoes photograph beautifully, even if you only wear them for part of the day. If your partner has unique shoes or special cufflinks, include those too.
Perfume and Cologne
A bottle of perfume or cologne always looks good in detail photos. If you are wearing a signature scent, it adds a personal touch.
Vow Books
If you have custom vows, little booklets, or written notes, pack them. They help tell the story of your ceremony.
A Clean Copy of Your Wedding Program
Most couples forget this, but programs look great in flat lays, especially if they include illustrations, florals, or personal details.
Fabric or Ribbon
Soft materials help tie the flat lay together.
You can pack:
• silk ribbon
• lace
• fabric scraps in your wedding colors
If you do not have any, I can bring styling pieces. But if you have colors you love, include them.
Extra Florals
Ask your florist for a few loose blooms or greenery. Even 3 to 5 flowers make a huge difference. They fill in empty space and connect your flat lay to your actual floral design.
Special Items That Matter to You
These make your flat lay personal and unique.
Ideas:
• handwritten letters
• meaningful charms
• something borrowed or blue
• a small gift from your partner
• anything sentimental you want photographed
Groom or Partner Details
These often get missed but look great in flat lays.
Pack:
• tie or bow tie
• watch
• cufflinks
• boutonniere
• belt
• cologne
• shoes
Even if I do not include everything, I like having options.
